Tanzania Introduces Port Infrastructure Development (PID) Levy

Tanzania has introduced a Port Infrastructure Development (PID) Levy as part of updated port tariff measures affecting cargo handled through Tanzania Ports Authority facilities.

According to an industry update published by Auditax International, the PID Levy took effect on July 1, 2026 under Tanzania Ports Authority's 2026 Sea Ports Tariff Book. The levy is intended to support port infrastructure expansion, modernization, and service improvements.

For importers, exporters, clearing agents, and logistics teams, the change is important because port-related charges can affect landed cost planning, shipment documentation, customs coordination, and client quotations. Businesses moving cargo through Dar es Salaam, Tanga, and other Tanzanian port corridors should review applicable charges early when planning shipments.
